How to shoot night skies

This is a great site that has been really useful in terms of learning how to shoot night and sky photography. This is something that I have been wanting to learn for some time. One of the things I have been considering for some time is the need to learn photography to a greater level to improve my cinematography ability. I feel as I work more in terms of learning photography and photographic lighting techniques as well as filmic ability. I feel by doing this more and learning more off my own back my skills and confidence in my skills is improving all the time and now I feel that when approaching a challenge whether that is photographic or film I feel that I can now step back and assess the best method to achieve what we or I am going for. There is some points that I know I need to work on, things like understanding light meters and reflective light meter readings and how to use and understand white balancing as well as how to read the relevant graphs waveforms like histograms to achieve a look or get the correct exposure whether that be during shooting or editing. Another thing I also want to learn s how to use photoshop and lightroom to develop and edit photos. This is due to a desire to learn wedding photography as I feel this could be a way to make money and also improve my photographic and cinematography ability.
