Aperture and depth of field

This is a great article about how aperture and depth of field work and the relationship between them. I would say this has been one the most important articles I have read of late and has been key to how I look and approach a shot. I have also bought an app that measures the depth of field based on the camera and focal length of the lens. This is been hugely important in the way I now approach filming and I shot. I find myself measuring the distances of the actors to the camera which is useful to help ensure I achieve focus when actors move about in shot. This something I hope we have got time for in the raven project as we will need to ensure we get good focus as the actors will be moving about a lot in shot. I want to be able to consider the effect the depth of field and aperture has on the way I shoot and will now always consider the distance and focal length to ensure I achieve good focus in all my shots. This has also made me realise that I want more lenses that also have focus points on them which my favourite and best lens my 50mm 1.8 doesn’t. Also this has made me realise that I want to buy some older lenses and buy some lens adapters. This will help me gather a greater range of lenses that are far more affordable then the canon or sigma lenses built for the DSLR cameras.
